With the Supreme Court’s latest ruling over NEET 2016 attracting a flurry of queries from medical aspirants, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released a Frequently Asked Question on the overhauled medical entrance test.
Latest: NEET 2017 will be conducted in the first week of May 2017 and NEET 2017 application form will be available in the month of December 2016.

Supreme Court on NEET 2016:
Supreme Court on May 9, 2016 ruled that NEET 2016 Phase 2 exam scheduled to be conducted on July 24 can be appeared by all candidates irrespective of their appearance in AIPMT/NEET Phase 1 held on May 1. However, NEET phase 1 examinees who appear for NEET Phase 2 will lose the NEET Phase 1 score. The apex court also cancelled state level and private medical entrance exams, observing that there was no infirmity in the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) regulation on the ground that it affects rights of states or the private institutions observing that observed. In 2013, NEET was declared illegal and unconstitutional by the Supreme Court as it was in opposition with the right of private, minority and linguistic institutions to admit students. Since then, many state governments are conducting their admission tests separately. Currently, about 80 - 90 entrance medical examinations are conducted by different examination authorities in India. However, with the SC restoring NEET, all the state level medical entrance exams stand scrapped.
About 6-7 lakh candidates annually appear for medical entrance tests in India for admissions to over 52,000 MBBS seats in more than 400 medical and dental colleges of India.
